Random walks veering left ∗

چکیده
We study coupled random walks in the plane such that, at each step, the walks change direction by a uniform random angle plus an extra deterministic angle θ. We compute the Hausdorff dimension of the θ for which the walk has an unusual behavior. This model is related to a study of the spectral measure of some random matrices. The same techniques allow to study the boundary behavior of some Gaussian analytic functions.

Veering in hemi-Parkinson’s disease: Primacy of visual over motor contributions
Veering while walking is often reported in individuals with Parkinson's disease (PD), with potential mechanisms being vision-based (asymmetrical perception of the visual environment) or motoric (asymmetry in stride length between relatively affected and non-affected body side). We examined these competing hypotheses by assessing veering in 13 normal control participants (NC) and 20 non-demented...
متن کاملImpact of optic flow perception and egocentric coordinates on veering in Parkinson's disease.
Spatial navigation is a complex process requiring integration of visuoperceptual information. The present study examined how visuospatial function relates to navigational veering in Parkinson's disease, a movement disorder in which visuospatial cognition is affected by the degeneration of the basal ganglia and resulting dysfunction of the parietal lobes. We hypothesized that patients whose init...
متن کاملSemigroups , Rings , and Markov
We analyze random walks on a class of semigroups called \left-regular bands". These walks include the hyperplane chamber walks of Bidi-gare, Hanlon, and Rockmore. Using methods of ring theory, we show that the transition matrices are diagonalizable and we calculate the eigenvalues and multiplicities. The methods lead to explicit formulas for the projections onto the eigenspaces. As examples of ...
متن کاملDual Cavity Segmentation of Left and Right Ventricles in Cardiac MRI by Guided Random Walks with Registration
In this paper we propose a new method for accurate segmentation of the left and right ventricles simultaneously in cardiac magnetic resonance images. Our approach is based on guided random walks and registration in order to efficiently exploit the prior shape knowledge. The contribution of the proposed method is in using registration of the pre-segmented data and then guided random walks segmen...
متن کاملRandom Walks on Quasisymmetric Functions
Conditions are provided under which an endomorphism on quasisymmetric functions gives rise to a left random walk on the descent algebra which is also a lumping of a left random walk on permutations. Spectral results are also obtained. Several important random walks are now realized this way: Stanley’s QS-distribution results from endomorphisms given by evaluation maps, a-shuffles result from th...
